If you'd like to save a dog's life and welcome a new pal into your world, this is the weekend to do it!

This Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Hillsborough County Pet Resources is hosting the regional Petco Love Mega Pet Adoption Event in Plant City. Animal lovers from across Tampa Bay looking to adopt a dog can choose from more than 500 pups from eight municipal and county shelters at one convenient location.

All dogs are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. To make it even easier to take home your new buddy, all fees will be waived.

The event is at the Grimes Family Agricultural Center on the Strawberry Festival grounds, 2508 W. Oak Ave., Plant City, FL 33563. The event runs Friday through Sunday, June 23-25. Hours are noon-6 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m.-noon Sunday.

Hillsborough County Pet Resource CenterPet shelters across the nation have been particularly overcrowded in the last couple of years, with more pets coming in than are being adopted out. The Pet Resource Center is currently at about 140 percent of capacity for dogs. Some dogs have been at the shelter for more than 100 days.

The Pet Resource Center is the only open-admissions shelter in Hillsborough County, meaning the shelter accepts all dogs and cats regardless of breed, size, or medical condition.

The shelter is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. However, the center will be closed to the public June 23-25 because of the offsite adoption event.

Photos and information of dogs and cats available for adoption are available through the Pet Resource Center's Online Kennel. For more information, contact the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center at (813) 301-7387 or [email protected].
